This week I had the pleasant experience of remembering someone whom I love dearly, my grandmother, Nana. I’m often reminded of her influence in my life from smelling the intense grab you from around the corner aroma of one of her Sunday meals that she prepared on Saturday complete with homemade rolls or pound cake (because we were in church all day on Sunday) or the soft kisses that she insisted be planted right on your lips or the way she added care to your life daily.
This week I was reminded what a gift it is to Remember.
Oftentimes, we don’t want to recall certain circumstances or people that have come and gone in our lives due to how they left or how the circumstance played itself out. Whatever, the reasoning is remembering a time that is difficult to forget or forgive is often the first step in getting on with our lives. Many times it is necessary to leave behind those people, places, and predicaments that left you wounded, wondering, and scared. Can I tell you that it is OK! Why? In order to return to love and life we must endure the process that gets us there and process is never pretty. It is oftentimes horrendous and gut-wrenching, but worth it.
Who you are, your ability to bring life, light and healing to those who need it most is dependent upon you remembering, recalling, re-evaluating who you have been destined to be in this world and find that place and operate in excellence when you get there.
All of our memories may not be wonderful but they carry the seeds of greatness within them and they all mix together to make us who we are today.
So, do not forget that tragedy, trauma or terror or the terrific circumstance that has shaped you. The moment that you choose to remember and hold that memory for what it is worth in your life the aroma of freedom will grab you and take you around the corner to a destination that would not be reached by forgetting or ignoring.
Choose to REMEMBER.
